HIV Screening

HIV Screening in the ED

MEDIC is working on a two-year project in partnership with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Bureau of HIV and STI Programs (BHSP) focused on increasing HIV and STI screening in Michigan emergency departments (EDs). This "Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE)" Collaborative is part of larger-scale efforts at the state and federal levels as part of the Ending the HIV Epidemic Initiative. The long-term goal of this work is to increase the number of HIV screenings in EDs to improve early detection and connection to treatment. This will be accomplished through an educational series and quality improvement (QI) opportunities facilitated by the MEDIC and MDHHS teams. Funding for this work is provided through a grant from the Michigan Health Endowment Fund (MHEF)Michigan EDs interested in participating in this work should reach out to Samantha Kesterson at keelersa@med.umich.edu.
